Septic

Correction to the Spring Newsletter:

A septic system pumping report or a maintenance inspection should be completed every 3 years and provided to the Township.  It was incorrectly printed that a septic compliance inspection should be completed every 3 years.

However, a septic compliance inspection is required for the following:

  • prior to the sale or transfer of ownership of a property
  • when altering an existing structure to add a bedroom
  • when a parcel undergoes development, subdivision, or split
  • whenever a permit or variance of any type is required for any improvement on, or use of, shoreland property.

We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Notice to Property Owners

Since 2007, MN Rules Chapter 7080 has required an assessment of every septic tank every three years, at minimum. This assessment includes the measurement or removal of scum and sludge accumulations as well as a determination of whether the sewage tank leaks. In keeping with State and County regulations, Linwood Township is now required to monitor septic systems to assure they are pumped or inspected every three years Please contact a certified/licensed professional to proceed with the required inspection or pumping. The licensed professional will send your report to the Township.

Sunrise River Watershed Management Organization

A properly functioning septic system provides effective treatment of wastewater, but if a system is neglected, it could cost thousands of dollars to repair and potentially contaminate local groundwater and surface water supplies, putting the health of your family and neighbors at risk.

Septic system fix up grants are available that can pay for 80-90% of the cost of fixing or replacing a septic system. Applicants must meet low income criteria. To apply or learn more, contact Kris Larson at the Anoka Conservation District (763-434-2030 ext. 110 or by emailing kris.larson@anokaswcd.org).
